Platystomatidae View in CoL View at ENA

This family of acalyptrate contains nearly 1,200 predominantly Afrotropical, Oriental and Australasian species ( Marshall 2012, Evenhuis & Pape 2020). In his “ Stirps Ortalidinae ”, rather than in the family Platystomatidae proposed by Schiner (1862a), Rondani (1869a, 1873e, 1875c) described five Palaearctic, five Oriental and one Afrotropical nominal species. Five are currently considered as valid, five as junior synonyms and one as a subspecies ( Steyskal 1977 e, Soós 1984b, Belcari et al. 1995b, Rivosecchi 2000). Both Á. Soós and L. Rivosecchi examined the MZUF type material with only Rivosecchi (2000) publishing any results. Here, we designate a lectotype for Megaglossa corticarum Rondani, 1869 , Megaglossa vegetationis Rondani, 1869 , Myiodella brachialis Rondani, 1873 , Senopterina zonalis Rondani, 1875 . Except for the type material of Megaglossa insularum , which is presumed lost, the type material has been recovered for all nominal species and is distributed among the MZUF (six), MSNG (six), MRSN (one) and OUMNH (one).
