ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 73.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Soria … Melita [ Syria … Malta Island]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Cyrtosia meridionalis ( Zaitzev 1989: 47, Contini et al. 1995: 6, Evenhuis 2002: 23).
REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 73) described Cyrthosia meridionalis , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui and A. Schembri. This nominal species was described under the generic name Cyrthosia , which is an “unjustified emendation of Cyrtosia Perris, 1839 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 69). We could not locate any type specimens of this nominal species during our study.
