ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 196.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Italy because the work deals with Italian species .

TYPE MATERIAL: 3 specimens, syntypes (sex not determinable, all completely covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 64): Pachipalpus Macq. / calceatus mihi / 3291.

CURRENT STATUS: Hackman et al. (1988) did not list it; doubtful species of Mycetophilidae ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 196) key for the genus Pachipalpus Macquart, 1834 lists Pachipalpus calceatus as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. We found three syntypes in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Pachipalpus , which is an “unjustified emendation of Pachypalpus Macquart, 1834 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 136).
