This tiny family consists of nine Oriental /Australasian species ( Marshall 2012, Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1875c) described one species in his “ Stirps Tanypezinae ”, considered as a valid name ( Steyskal 1977b: 30). The family Nothybidae was proposed by Frey (1927). The type material is in the MSNG.
