Ptilocheta galeazzii Rondani, 1862 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 137 (key), 141 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Insubria alpina [ Insubrian (= Lombardy, Italy) Alps]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (missing left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 17): Ptilocheta Rndn. / galeazzii Rnd. / 894 / lectotype [not designated] ♂, Ptilocheta galeazzii Rnd., T. Pape det., 1986 / Stevenia atramentaria (Mg.) , T. Pape det., 1986.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Stevenia atramentaria View in CoL ( Pape 1989: 356, Herting 1993: 112, Peris & González- Mora 2007: 52; Cerretti et al. 2020: 97).

REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 141) described Ptilocheta galeazzii from just the male sex, giving a single measurement of length: “ Mas lectus … a Do Galeazzi [The male collected by Dr. Galeazzi]”. Rondani named the species “ galeazzii ” in his key (1862d: 137) and description (141) but as “ galeazzi ” in his index (237). Pape (1989: 356) considered “ galeazzi ” as “an incorrect original spelling” and the single male in the MZUF as the holotype. The MZUF female in Box D is not included in the type series because of its sex. O’Hara et al. (2011: 155) considered Ptilocheta as an “unnecessary new replacement name for Ptilocera Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ”.
