Rhagionidae View in CoL View at ENA
This family of Orthorrhapha contains 786 species found worldwide; however, its taxonomic boundaries are under debate ( Marshall 2012, Evenhuis & Pape 2020). In his “ Familia Leptinae ”, rather than in the family Rhagionidae proposed by Latreille (1802), Rondani (1848b, 1850c) described two Neotropical species, both considered as valid ( James 1968). Nelson Papavero examined the MRSN type material without publishing any results. The type material of Leptis apicalis has presumably been lost, the type material of the other species is in the MRSN.
