This family of Calyptratae contains about 200 species predominantly from Europe and Africa ( Cerretti et al. 2014, 2020, Evenhuis & Pape 2020). Rondani (1856, 1861e, 1862d, 1865 c, 1868a) described 15 Palaearctic nominal species in his “ Stirps Dexina ” and “ Stirps Tachinina ”. Six nominal species are currently considered as valid and nine as junior synonyms (Herting 1993, Pape 1989, Pape et al. 1995, Peris & González-Mora 2007). Pape (1989) examined the type material in the MZUF and designated a lectotype for Cirillia angustifrons Rondani, 1856 , Morinia celer Rondani, 1862 , Oplisa mendica Rondani, 1862 , Phyto adolescens Rondani, 1861 , Ptilocheta passerinii Rondani, 1862 , Stevenia parmensis Rondani, 1861 , Tromodesia vibripennis Rondani, 1856 . Here, we designate a lectotype for Stevenia florentina Rondani, 1861 . The family Rhinophoridae was proposed by Robineau-Desvoidy (1863). The type material for all nominal species has been recovered and is distributed among the MZUF (15), MSNC (three), OUMNH (two) and MSNPV (one).
