TYPE LOCALITY: “ In collibus parmensibus [Parmese hills ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (wings, thorax and abdomen on a slide) ( MZUF: “ Diptera Rondani 4: n° 14” ex Box 65): 3364 / ex cass. 65 collezione Rondani, mounted XI.1994, Gagné / Malikul, Can. Balsam / ♂ Brachineura fuscogrisea Rondani , lectotype (to be design. by Gagné & Solinas) .

PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♂ (one wing, thorax and abdomen on a slide) ( MZUF: “ Diptera Rondani 4: n° 15” ex Box 65): 3364 / ex cass. 65, collezione Rondani, mounted XI.1994, Gagné / Malikul, Can. Balsam / ♂ Brachineura fuscogrisea Rondani (to be desig. by Gagné & Solinas) .

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 1 specimen (sex not determinable, glued to cardboard stage, abdomen and thorax covered by glue) (OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box. 21): syntype / Type / B. fuscogrisea Ex. Coll. Bigot; 1 specimen (sex not determinable, glued to cardboard stage, abdomen and thorax covered by glue) (OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box. 21): syntype / Type / Brachyneura [sic!] fuscogrisea Rondani type, Parma / B. fuscogrisea Ex. Coll. Bigot.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Skuhravá 1986: 202, Gagné 2010: 142, Dahl et al. 1995: 25, Gagné & Jaschhof 2017: 193).

REMARKS: Rondani (1840b: 17) described Brachineura fuscogrisea without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens but his original description of the genus Brachineura Rondani, 1840 provides specific characters for the male and female so he had both sexes. Gagné & Solinas (1996: 73) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotype (♂) but did not mention an additional two specimens (sex not determinable) in the OUMNH (both of these additional specimens are paralectotypes).
