Cecidomyia atricapilla Rondani, 1869

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1869c: 190.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but Delpino (1869: 232) indicated Chiavari (Genoa, Italy) as the collecting locality .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 specimen, syntype (glued to a cardboard stage, sex not determinable, missing antennae and legs) ( MZUF: Box 65): [no label with the name of the species is present] / in florib aristoloch flori [illegible letters] / 3344 .

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Cecidomyiidae ( Skuhravá, 1986: 294) View in CoL ; unplaced species of Cecidomyiinae View in CoL ( Gagné 2010: 409, Gagné & Jaschhof 2017: 558).

REMARKS: Rondani (1869c: 190) described Cecidomyia atricapilla from just the female sex, without specifying the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from F. Delpino. Gagné & Solinas (1996: 74) reported: “no specimen [in the MZUF] is labeled as atricapilla , but one of the two specimens of #3344 bears a label reading ‘ in florib aristoloch flori [illegible letters]’, and may possibly be the type of this nominal species”. We consider this latter specimen as a syntype.
