ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850c: 177.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insulae S. Sebastiani [ San Sebastian Island ( Brazil)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (abdomen damaged, stored in a paper envelope pinned below specimen) ( MRSN: Box 1755): Mya Rndn. Lucilia alior semidiaphana Rndn., Ins. S. Sebastiani / holotype ♂ of Mya semidiaphana Rond. , det J.P. Dear, 1981 / holotype / Mya semidiaphana Rond. 1850: 177 , Ins . S. Sebastiani.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Dear 1985: 130); junior synonym of Hemilucilia segmentaria ( Fabricius, 1805) View in CoL ( James 1970: 7, Mac-Lean & González 2006: 18); valid species, as Hemilucilia semidiaphana View in CoL ( Kosmann et al. 2013: 76, Wolff & Kosmann 2016: 863, Velásquez et al. 2017: 115).
REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 177) described Mya semidiaphana from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui. Dear (1985: 130) reported the holotype in the MRSN.
