Somomya lucens Rondani, 1862 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1862d: 186 (key), 189 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “Paris” ( Robineau-Desvoidy 1830: 466) [locality for Phormia regina ( Meigen, 1826) sensu Robineau-Desvoidy (1830) ]; Macquart (1833: 166) gave no locality in his redescription of Phormia regina ( Meigen, 1826) , but presumably it is Northern France because the work deals with Diptera from Northern France; “De France et d’Allemagne [ France and Germany]” ( Macquart 1835: 256) [localities for Phormia regina ( Meigen, 1826) sensu Macquart (1835) ]; “ in agro parmensi praesertim collina … in Tyrolis Italici plagis … in Ungaria [Parmese territory above all on hills ( Italy) … the Italian Tyrol … Hungary]” ( Rondani 1862d: 189) [type localities for Somomya lucens Rondani, 1862 ].

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Phormia regina ( Meigen, 1826) View in CoL ( Schumann 1986: 41, Pape et al. 1995: 9).
REMARKS: Rondani (1862d: 189) proposed Somomya lucens for Phormia regina ( Meigen, 1826) sensu Robineau- Desvoidy (1830: 466) and Macquart (1833: 166, 1835: 256), which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Robineau-Desvoidy’s and Macquart’s redescriptions of Phormia regina , which were based on an unspecified number of specimens, and to an unspecified number of specimens he had collected and also received from S. Bertolini and G. Passerini. Therefore, the type material should be in the collections of Robineau-Desvoidy (MNHN), Macquart (MHNL, MNHN, OUMNH) and Rondani. No specimen labeled as Phormia regina is present in Robineau-Desvoidy’s and Macquart’s collections in the MNHN (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020). No specimen labeled as Phormia regina is present in Macquart’s collection at OUMNH (Z. Simmons, pers. comm., September 2019). The Macquart collection in the MHNL contains an empty pin without specimen with the following labels (O. Boilly, pers. comm., May 2019): g. Phormia Rob. -D. / P. regina S. Farg [= Saint-Fargeau?] [illegible letter] / 164. We found nine syntypes in this study: seven in the MZUF and two in the MSNC.
