Peratochetus lutescens Rondani, 1856 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 119.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1875a: 251) added “ in agro parmensi , … et faeminam germanicam obtinui [ Parmese territory ( Italy), … I obtained one female from Germany]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (missing right wing, right fore- and mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 34): Peratochetus Rndn. / lutescens Rndn., Germ. [= Germany], Parma / 1786 / Lectotypus [not designated] Peratochetus lutescens Rond. , ♂, desig. Á. Soós, 1979 / Clusia flava (Meig.) , ♂, det. Á. Soós, 1979 / Peratochetus lutescens ; 1 ♂, paralectotype (abdomen and legs in a microvial pinned next to the specimen labeled: “broken upon arrival”) ( MZUF: Box 34): Peratochetus Rndn. / lutescens Rndn., Germ. [= Germany], Parma / 1786 / Paralectotypus [not designated] Peratochetus lutescens Rond. , ♂, desig. Á. Soós, 1979 / Clusia flava (Meig.) , ♂, det. Á. Soós, 1979.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Clusia flava (Meigen, 1830) View in CoL ( Soós 1984d: 13, Canzoneri et al. 1995: 8).

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 119) key for the genus Peratochetus Rondani, 1856 lists Peratochetus lutescens as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. He later ( Rondani 1875a: 251) described both sexes: “ bis marem inveni …, et faeminam germanicam obtinui [I found the male twice …, and received one female from Germany]”. Árpád Soós examined the MZUF type material in 1979, adding the label “ lectotypus ” and “ paralectotypus ” under the specimens, but without publishing a lectotype designation (T. Pape, pers. comm., 2013). We also found two male syntypes in this study. The female type has presumably been lost. In order to promote nomenclatural stability, we give credit to K.A. Spencer and here designate as a lectotype for Peratochetus lutescens Rondani, 1856 the male labeled as such by him.
