ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1869c: 190.
TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but Delpino (1869: 232) indicated Chiavari (Genoa, Italy) as the collecting locality .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Culicoides pictellum ( Borkent 2016: 99) View in CoL ; doubtful species of Culicoides Latreille, 1809 View in CoL ( Remm 1988: 72, Borkent & Dominiak 2020: 143).
REMARKS: Rondani (1869c: 190) described Ceratopogon pictellum from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from F. Delpino. We could not locate any type specimens of this nominal species in our study.
