ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1860b: 134.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Parma (Italy) because he referred to observations made by himself.

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Ceratopogonidae ( Remm 1988: 110) View in CoL ; valid species, as Forcipomyia aristolochiae ( Dominiak & Szadziewski 2010: 29) ; valid species, as Forcipomyia (Panhelea) aristolochiae ( Borkent 2016: 52, Borkent & Dominiak 2020: 52).

REMARKS: Rondani (1860b: 134) described both sexes of Ceratopogon aristolochiae without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. Dominiak & Szadziewski (2010: 29) designated a lectotype (♀) and paralectotypes (6 ♀♀). The male type has presumably been lost.
