Big. / Fanniidae Fannia leucosticta ( Meigen, 1838) (syn: brevis Rondani 1866 ) Cosmopolitan.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Fannia leucosticta ( Meigen, 1838) View in CoL ( Pont 1986a: 50, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 9).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 132) described both sexes of Homalomya brevis without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ copulam et mares paucos legi … et specimina duo mascula ab insula melita misit Doct. Schembri [I collected a pair and a few males … and Dr. Schembri sent me two specimens from Malta Island]”. We found nine syntypes in this study. An additional three males and five females in the MZUF numbered “1344” are not included in the type series because their labels are yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and are in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat them to be subsequent additions. This nominal species was described under the generic name Homalomya , which is an “unjustified emendation of Homalomyia Bouché, 1834 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 97) and that Rondani (1866a: 123; 1877c: 42) considered as a senior synonym of Myantha Rondani, 1856 .
