Psilopus ducalis Rondani, 1850
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850c: 182; 195 (as Psylopus ducalis ).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insulae S. Sebastiani [ San Sebastian Island ( Brazil)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MRSN: Box 1755): Psilopus Macq. / ducalis Rndn., Ins. S. Sebasti Genè / Psilopus ducalis Rond. 1850: 182 , Venezuela.
CURRENT STATUS: Robinson (1970) and Yang et al. (2006) did not list it; available name ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 209).
REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 182) described Psilopus ducalis from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from E. Truqui. We found one syntype in this study. Rondani (1850c) named this genus as Psilopus (p. 182) in the description of the species but as Psylopus in the caption of figure 6 (p. 195). The generic name Psylopus is considered an “unjustified emendation of Psilopus Meigen, 1824 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 153).
