TYPE LOCALITY: “British Islands” ( Walker 1851: 180) [locality for Orthochile nigrocoerulea Latreille, 1809 sensu Walker (1851) ].

TYPE MATERIAL: not found, see Remarks.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Ortochile nigrocoerulea Latreille, 1809 View in CoL ( Negrobov 1991: 94, Yang et al. 2006: 182).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859a: 317) proposed Orthochile walkeri for Orthochile nigrocoerulea Latreille, 1809 sensu Walker (1851: 180) , which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Walker’s redescription of Orthochile nigrocoerulea , which was based on an unspecified number of specimens, so the type material of Orthochile walkeri Rondani should be in Walker’s collection. This type material has presumably been lost because it is not in the NHMUK where the Walker’s collection is preserved (N. Wyatt, pers. comm., May 2019). This nominal species was described under the generic name “ Orthochile ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Ortochile Latreille, 1809 or subsequent usage of Orthochile Blanchard, 1845 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 133).
