ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865a: 146.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Etruria [ Etruria (= Tuscany, Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♀♀, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 8): Zodion Latr. / erythrurum Rnd. , Etruria / 405.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Chvála & Smith 1988: 260, Rivosecchi & Scaramozzino 1995: 3, Mei & Stuke, 2008: 4, Stuke 2017: 235).

REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 146) described Zodion erythrurum from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from F.M. Piccioli. Stuke (2017: 235) reported two female syntypes in the MZUF. We also consider the two female syntypes to have been mis-sexed by Rondani.
