Culicidae View in CoL View at ENA
This worldwide family of Culicomorpha flies contains more than 3,700 species ( Harbach 2018). Rondani (1848b, 1872a) described six Italian and two Neotropical nominal species of Culex . Four of these are currently considered as valid and four as junior synonyms ( Minář 1991, Belkin et al. 1971, Arnell 1976, Boorman et al. 1995, Guimarães 1997, Severini et al. 2009). Zavortink (1968) designated a lectotype for Culex pulcripalpis Rondani, 1872 in the MZUF. Here, we designate a lectotype for Culex pulcritarsis Rondani, 1872 . The type material is distributed between the MZUF (Italian) and the MZUN (Neotropical).
