ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1879: 24 (key), 25 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Montuosis Italiae centralis [on mountains in central Italy]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype (head and abdomen partially eaten by dermestids) ( MZUF: Box 66): Hippobosca / taurina Rnd. / Stazzano G. F., 3.9.70 / 3412 / holotype Hippobosca taurina Rndn. , ♀, T. C. Maa, [19]62.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Hippobosca equina Linnaeus, 1758 View in CoL ( Soós & Hůrka 1986: 223, Pape et al. 1995: 8).
REMARKS: Rondani (1879: 25) described Hippobosca taurina from a single specimen without specifying its sex: “ unico specimine [single specimen]”.
