Myiophthiria lygaeoides Rondani, 1878 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1878a: 154 (key), 155 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Insula Amboina [on Ambon Island (= Maluku Islands)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MSNG): Amboina, 1873 , O. Beccari / Typus / Myiophthiria lygaeoides Rnd. / lygaeoides Rndn. / Myiophthiria lygaeoides Rndn. , typus!
PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box 66): Nabidoides n. ligaoides [sic!] m. / Amboina, 1873 , O. Beccari / 3386 / Paratype lygaeoides Rndn., T. C. Maa , [19]62.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species Myophthiria lygaeoides ( Maa 1989a: 786) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1878a: 155) described Myiophthiria lygaeoides from two specimens: “ Exemplaria duo observata … lecta fuerunt a Cel. O. Beccari [I observed two specimens … collected by Mr. O. Beccari]”. Guiglia (1957: 195) reported the MSNG male of Myiophthiria lygaeoides as “ holotype ”, without knowing of an additional male in the MZUF. She unambiguously selected a single specimen in the type series to serve as the namebearing type and therefore this specimen must be considered as the lectotype (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.5). Maa (1963: 43) examined the MSNG and MZUF material for Myiophthiria lygaeoides and reported that Guiglia fixed the lectotype. He considered the MZUF female under the name Nabidoides ligaoides [sic!] as belonging to the type series. The MZUF specimen of lygaeoides is under the generic name Nabidoides but this is an unpublished name ( Maa, 1963: 43). This nominal species was described under the generic name “ Myiophthiria ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Myophthiria Rondani, 1875 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 124).
