ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 157 (key), 164 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Windobonae lectus [collected in Vienna ( Austria)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (phallus, hypopygium, fifth and sixth abdominal segments on three separate slides) ( MZUF: Box 23): Chorthophila Mcq. / terebrans Rnd. , Austria / 1213 / Pegomya terebrans Rondani , Holotypus.
SLIDES: Hypopygium on slide n° 6 (Box Diptera Rondani 1): Pegomya terebrans (Rondani) , coll. Rondani n° 1213 / Chortophila terebrans Rondani , Holotypus ♂, Hypopygium. CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Pegomya terebrans ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 87) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 164) described Chorthophila terebrans from a single male: “ lectus … et mihi transmissus mas speciei [male of the species collected and sent to me]” received from C. Tacchetti to whom he attributed the species name. Rondani (1866a: 157, 1877c: 199) considered Chorthophila terebrans to have been described by Tacchetti. Hennig (1973b: 648) reported the holotype in the MZUF. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Chorthophila , which is an “unjustified emendation of Chortophila Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 57).
