CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Botanophila varicolor ( Meigen, 1826) View in CoL ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 32, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 5).
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 173) described both sexes of Chorthophila impudica , from an unspecified number of specimens he had collected and one male from the Alps in G. Mussino collection. Willi Hennig examined the MZUF type material, adding the label “ lectotype ” and “ paralectotype ” under the specimens, but in Hennig (1970a: 334), he did not specify either the number or sex of the specimens, and failed to designate a lectotype. Verner Michelsen studied this material in 1985, adding the label “ lectotype ” and “ paralectotype ” under the specimens, but without publishing a lectotype designation (V. Michelsen, pers. comm., September 2012). We also found five syntypes in the MZUF. An additional MZUF specimen numbered “1236” and labeled “Asch 3 [1]870.6” is not included in the type series because it was collected at Asch [= Aš, Czech Republic] by F. Kowarz and later donated to Rondani ( Hennig 1974c: 905, Claussen & Thomson 1996: 280). In order to promote nomenclatural stability, we give credit to V. Michelsen and here designate as a lectotype for Chorthophila impudica Rondani, 1866 the MZUF male labeled as such by him. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Chorthophila , which is an “unjustified emendation of Chortophila Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 57).
