ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 144 (key), 147 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Italy because the work deals with Italian species .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 22, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 5).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 147) described both sexes of Anthomyia procellaris from an unspecified number of specimens. Michelsen (1980a: 286) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (5 ♂♂, 2 ♀♀) but did not mention an additional male in the MZUF (this additional specimen is a paralectotype).
