ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1868b: 36.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Mendoza ( Portezuelo de Bonilla ) [Mendoza (Portezuelo de Bonilla), ( Argentina)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MZUF: Box 71): Anthrax barbiventris Rnd., Am. M. [= South America] / [no identification number].
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Villa barbiventris View in CoL ( Evenhuis & Greathead 1999: 490, 2015: 510).
REMARKS: Rondani (1868b: 36) described Anthrax barbiventris , without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from P. Strobel. Evenhuis & Greathead (1999: 490) reported the specimen in the MZUF to be a holotype.
