TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insulae S. Sebastiani [ San Sebastian Island ( Brazil)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype ( MRSN: Box 1755): Ommatius Ill. costatus Rndn., Insul. S. Sebast., Genie / holotype Ommatius costatus Rond. N. Papavero det. [19]72 / Museo di Zoologia della Università Torino, Italia / lectotype ♂ Ommatius costatus Rondani , dt. A. G. Scarbrough [19]87 / Ommatius costatus Rond. 1850: 188 , Ins . S. Seb.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Martin & Papavero 1970: 59, Scarbrough 1993: 738, Papavero 2009: 48).

REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 188) described Ommatius costatus from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui. Scarbrough (1993: 738) designated a lectotype (♂).
