ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1848b: 95.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Brésil, environs de Para [ Brazil, in the environs of Pará]” ( Macquart 1838b: 101) [type locality for Mallophora nigripes (Macquart, 1838) ] .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Promachus nigripes ( Fabricius, 1787) ( Martin & Papavero 1970: 80) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Amblyonychus nigripes ( Fabricius, 1787) ( Papavero 2009: 34) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1848b: 95) considered Trupanea Macquart, 1839 as a junior synonym of the genus Mallophora Macquart, 1834 and moved the species Asilus nigripes Fabricius, 1787 to the genus Mallophora . Consequently, Rondani proposed the new replacement name Mallophora macquartii for Mallophora nigripes (Macquart, 1838) secondary homonym of Mallophora nigripes Fabricius, 1787 . Papavero (2009: 34) incorrectly reported type material as being in the MZUN. The type material for Mallophora macquartii will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Asilus nigripes . The holotype of this latter species is preserved in the MNHN (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020).
