Dasipogon parvus Rondani, 1851 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1851: 369.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ regioni equatoriali dell’America, principalmente nelle vicinanze del Rio Napo [ Equatorial regions of ( South ) America, mainly in the vicinity of Napo River]” ( Rondani 1851: 357) .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Asilidae View in CoL ( Martin & Papavero 1970: 90, Papavero 2009: 140).
REMARKS: Rondani (1851: 369) described Dasipogon parvus from just the female sex, giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by Osculati (1850) during his journey through equatorial South America. Osculati (1850: 240) named but did not describe the species. Leonardi et al. (1995: 148) and Mazzotti (2011: 166) reported the Osculati collection in Milan as having been destroyed. Papavero (2009: 140) reported the type material in the MZUN, but we did not find any type material in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Dasipogon ”, which is a misspelling of Dasypogon Meigen, 1803 or subsequent usage of Dasipogon Dufour, 1833 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 71).
