Allometopon View in CoL View at ENA female 1

Figs 321, 322

Description. General: (Figs 321, 322) Body length 2.6–3.2mm. Arista short plumose. M1+2 ratio 4.1–5.7. First flagellomere enlarged. Male unknown.

Chaetotaxy: Three fronto-orbital setae, anterior seta approximately 2/3 length. Ocellar seta thin and slightly longer than ocellar tubercle. Postvertical seta minute. Interfrontal seta minute. First flagellomere along distal margin with hairs longer than width of base of arista. Anterior dorsocentral half length of posterior dorsocentral; closely set posteriorly. Acrostichal seta weak, slightly larger than surrounding setulae. Two lateral scutellar setae with anterior seta short, thin.

Colour: Setae brown, yellow below anepisternal seta. Head yellow with orange tint on frons, and head below antenna whitish-yellow; dorsal half of first flagellomere dark brown; arista white with apex brownish; ocellar tubercle dark brown; posterolateral corner of frons with dark brown stripe surrounding base of vertical setae and usually also posterior fronto-orbital seta, and continuing onto lateral margin of back of head; base of second and sometimes hind fronto-orbital with ill-defined brown spot(s); face brownish-orange between antennal bases; clypeus with orange tint; palpus lightly infuscated apically; parafacial, gena and postgena silvery tomentose. Notum dark brown with venter of postpronotum yellow. Pleuron and legs yellow with faint orange to brown mottling dorsally on anepisternum and anepimeron. Halter yellow. Wing dusky, becoming clearer posteriorly. Abdomen yellow with tergites 1–7 dark brown; sternites posterior to sternite 1 brownish to mottled brown (posterior sternites obscured).

Female terminalia: Not dissected.

Distribution: Papua New Guinea.

Material examined: PAPUA NEW GUINEA. East Sepik Province: Imbia, near Maprik, 19.xii.1963, D.K. McAlpine (1♀, AMSA), 22.xii.2963 (1♀, AMSA), Kuminibus, near Maprik, 17.xii.1963, D.K.McAlpine (2♀, AMSA).

Comments: Most characteristic of this female is the narrow, paired markings on the back of the head, representing the outer portion of the wedge-shaped stripes seen in most other Allometopon , as well as a dark brown notum and pale pleuron with the dorsum of the anepisternum and anepimeron lightly infuscated, and variable brown markings on the frons from the base of the vertical setae to the base of the fronto-orbitals. These female share similarities with A. hirsutum ( Fig. 107 View FIGURES 107 – 112 ), including the dark orbital plate (more extensive in A. hirsutum ), the mostly pale arista and the length of the cephalic setae.
