Diagnosis. Partially white yellowish fore tarsomeres, except for the fifth tarsomere darkened and flattened; fore second tarsomere on ventral surface with a tuft of short whitish setae, forming a comb and almost in entire tarsomere; ventral katepisternal spine; hind coxa without setulae on posterior margin, and 2 long setae on anterior surface.

Description. Male holotype ( Fig. 1K View FIGURE 1 )

Head: eye with sparse setulae. Frontal vitta dark brown. 16 fr. 1 pair of oc, proclinate and developed, surrounded by 5 setulae. Fronto–orbital plate and parafacial with silver pollinosity, gena brown. Parafacial bare. Scape dark brown with 2 dorsal setae. Pedicel black with golden yellow pollinosity, 1 long dorsal seta and surrounded by short setulae. Postpedicel dark brown, 2.5 times the length of pedicel. Arista dark brown, with short pubescence, rays shorter than width of base of arista. Palpus dark brown, claviform.

Thorax: dark brown; scutum without vittae. Acr 2–3:3, irregular rows. Dc 2:3. Pprn 3, developed and surrounded setulae. Pra 2. Proepimeron setulose. Katespisternum with long setulae and ventrally with a tuft of straight short setae.

Wing: brownish, with superior third, between C vein and superior half of R 2+3 vein darkened. Calypter whitish. Haltere yellowish.

Legs: coxae, femora and tibia brown; tarsi brown, except for the fore 1–4 tarsomeres white yellowish, pulvilli brownish. Fore femur with a few av on basal third, apical half almost bare; 1 row of d; pd and p surface setulose, with thin and long hooked setae; 1 row of long pv. Fore tibia with 1 pre–apical d; 1 apical pv and 1 v. Fore second tarsomere on ventral surface with a tuft of short whitish setae ( Fig. 4D View FIGURE 4 ). Mid femur with 1 row of unequal av, long on basal half and shorter on apical half; 1 row of ad; 1 row p; 1 row of pv; 1 row of shorter v until apical third, near pv row, 5 apical hooked setae. Mid tibia strongly constricted on ventral surface on basal half and highly setulose on apical half ( Fig. 4E View FIGURE 4 ), 1 strong and long apical v; 1 sub–median and 1 apical a; 1 apical av; 1 pre–apical ad; 1 submedian and 1 pre–apical pd, both short; 1 pre–apical p. Hind coxa without setulae on posterior margin, 2 long a. Hind femur curved and pre–apically enlarged, with 5 long strong v on the swelling ( Fig. 4F View FIGURE 4 ); 4 differentiated ad on apical third; short straight a, ad and av, apical third almost bare; setulose ventral surface until the apical third, 6 long and strong v on the swelling and 1 apical ( Fig. 4F View FIGURE 4 ); 1 pre–apical d; 1 pre–apical pd; pv surface setulose; posterior surface bare, except on basal third. Hind tibia with 1 median and 1 pre–apical d; 1 sub–median ad; 2 submedian and 1 apical av.

Abdomen: dark brown. Sternite 1 setulose. Sternite 5 ( Fig.5K). Terminalia ( Fig. 7C View FIGURE 7 ): epandrium wider than long, on basal half with short setae and two developed setae, two long acute apical internal projections, externally covering a basal part of surstylus; surstylus fusioned with epandrium, curved apically, shaped as a comma in frontal and in lateral view, basal half with internal basal expansion and setae; cercal plate much smaller than epandrium, slightly pointed and and fused to the basal third, weakly setulose; baciliform process long and simple, almost as long as half of the surstylus.

Female: unknown.

Biology. Label information indicates that this species occurs in highland forests of Costa Rica, above 2000 m. Nothing else is known about its habits or biology.

Comments. This species is similar to Fannia terraba sp. nov. but differs in that the katepisternal ventral setae are less developed, calypter whitish, haltere yellowish, fore second tarsomere on ventral surface with a tuft of short whitish setae on almost the entire tarsomere and hind coxa without setulae on posterior margin, and 2 long setae on anterior surface. Also similar to Fannia arcuata Chillcott, 1961 (pretiosa group) but differs due to dark legs. Similar to Fannia gilvitarsis Chillcott, 1961 (pretiosa group) from which it differs due to the pale yellow fore tarsus, apex of fifth is darkened.

Etymology. Name in apposition. The species epithet is in homage to the Teribi indigenous people (also called Naso), that once inhabited northwestern Panama to northeastern Costa Rica.
