Type material

Holotype, MOM, Princesse-Alice, St. 1150, 25 July 1901, 16 ◦ 12 ′ N, 24 ◦ 43 ′ 45" W, 3890 m.

Type locality

Atlantic Ocean, near Cape Verde Islands, 3890 m.

Diagnosis

Oval body, flattened, ventral sole developed. Anus ventral, situated in small depression. Body almost uniformly covered with very thin pedicels arranged in broad bands; these are absent in mid-ventral ambulacrum. Gonads in one tuft situated to right of dorsal mesentery.

Ossicles tables with large disks, with seven or eight holes; spire high, ending in three arms, often of equal size, with some small teeth on ends ( Figure 12 ); in tubefeet, typical small end plates and plates as in the bodywall, no supporting rods present in tubefeet. Rim of table disk strongly undulated, often irregular.

This might be not a separate species, see remarks for M. murrayi .

Distribution

In the Caribbean – off Guadeloupe and St Vincent Islands, also off Cape Verde ( Figure 9 ).

Depth 1600–3890 m.
