Hierodula coarctata Saussure, 1869 View in CoL View at ENA
Recorded in Australia by Westwood (1889), this species is otherwise only known from India and Pakistan ( Mukherjee & Ghate 2010). Westwood refers to specimens held by the Natural History Museum, London, only one of which can now be located. Although the identification of the specimen is correct, it bears two different locality labels. The first reads “Austral”, while the second ostensibly reads “ Manila ” ( Philippines). No other records of this species are known from either locality, and it is almost certain that the specimen is mislabelled. In light of this, the species is here removed from the Australian list.
No known copyright restrictions apply. See Agosti, D., Egloff, W., 2009. Taxonomic information exchange and copyright: the Plazi approach. BMC Research Notes 2009, 2:53 for further explanation.
