Hierodula fuscescens Blanchard, 1853

Recorded in Australia (and Indonesia) by Giglio-Tos (1927) and later Beier ( Beier 1935; Beier 1942), this species is otherwise only known from Fiji and possibly the Solomon Islands ( Blanchard 1853; Kirby 1904). Beier lists measurements of specimens held in the Natural History Museum Vienna (presumably the same as those recorded by Giglio-Tos), however these cannot now be located. It is very unlikely that this species is actually present in either Australia or Indonesia, and in the absence of any further specimens it is here removed from the Australian list.
