Plotosus lineatus (Thunberg, 1787) —Striped catfish, striped eel catfish

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on specimens photographed at St. CTR 0 6, and by Tan H. H. at St. PR 10 on 8 Nov. 2012. AMS, BPBM and USNM material (AMS I.17089-002; BPBM 13633; USNM 219474, 219486, 219477).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Red Sea, East Africa and Algoa Bay ( South Africa) east to Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Korea, southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia at 32°S and Lord Howe Island. Found in coral reefs; also in estuaries, tidal pools and on open coasts, 1– 60 m. Transitional water and marine.
