Anaora tentaculata Gray, 1835 —Tentacled dragonet, leafy dragonet

STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Fricke (2002: 9–10). CAS material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Eastern Indonesia east to Guam, Palau and Yap, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New Guinea. Found in harem groups, on sand-rubble bottoms near coral reefs, or in seagrass habitats, 1– 30 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. Record from Madang based on a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen. NTUM material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Madang ( Papua New Guinea); known only from a single specimen. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on WAM material (WAM P.29595-021). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. New Guinea east to Vanuatu, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Sand bottoms, 0– 15 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Fricke (1983: 122–137). Specimens observed and collected at St. CTR 11, CTR 26; specimens collected by W.-J. Chen. MNHN, NTUM, SMF and USNM material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Indonesia east to Guam, Palau, Yap and Solomon Islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on soft bottoms in the lagoon, or on sand patches on the reef flat, often associated with seagrass habitats, 0– 15 m. Transitional water and marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on WAM material (WAM P.30366-016). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Vietnam and eastern Indonesia east to Solomon Islands, north to southern Japan south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on sand bottoms, often near reefs, 0– 22 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. Originally described from Madang by Fricke (2000: 62, fig. 30); previously reported as Callionymus japonicus View in CoL (non Houttuyn, 1782) by Fricke (2001: 3556, distribution map). BPBM material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. West Papua ( Indonesia) and Papua View in CoL New Guinea. Endemic to New Guinea. Found on soft bottoms of lagoon and slope habitats, 20– 27 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen collected at St. CTR 11. SMF and WAM material (SMF 34879; WAM P.30366-011).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Vietnam, Philippines and eastern Indonesia east to Marshall and Cook islands, north to southern China, south to Queensland ( Australia), Norfolk Island and New Caledonia. Found on soft bottoms adjacent to coastal, lagoon and seaward reefs, 0– 34 m. Marine.

Eleutherochir opercularis View in CoL (Valenciennes in Cuvier View in CoL & Valenciennes, 1837) —Estuarine largemouth dragonet STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Munro (1958); record confirmed by Fricke (2002: 50). CSIRO material.

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Sri Lanka and eastern ndia east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands. Found in estuaries, lower reaches of freshwater rivers and streams, and in adjacent mangrove habitats, 0– 3 m. Fresh water, transitional water and marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on WAM material (WAM P.30365-005). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Central Indonesia east to Philippines and Papua View in CoL New Guinea. Found on sandrubble bottoms, 6– 35 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen photographed by A. Berberian. WAM material (WAM P.30633-002).

DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Central Indonesia east to Mariana Islands, south to Chesterfield Islands. Found in coral reefs, 2– 35 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. Originally described from Madang by Fricke (1990: 2, figs. 1–2). SMNS material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Queensland ( Australia) and Papua View in CoL New Guinea, 1– 10 m. Sand and gravel bottoms in coral reef lagoons. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on WAM material (WAM P.30358-007). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Eastern Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Pitcairn, north to Izu Islands ( Japan), south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on rubble or algae, 0– 30 m. Marine.

STATUS AT MADANG. First record from Madang by Fricke (1981: 129). BMNH material. DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Central Indonesia east to Palau, Micronesia and Solomon Islands, north to Rykyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in sheltered coral reef habitats, 0– 18 m. Marine.
