Diagnosis. Scutum dark brown with faint vittae in male, more distinct in female; antenna yellow-orange; palpus yellow; legs yellow in male and with femora dark brown with yellow tips in female; female with an unusual irregular row of subequal anteroventral setae on mid femur and no submedian anterodorsal seta on mid tibia; male mid femur with a row of strong curved anteroventral spine-like seta ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1–10. 1–6 of Crosskey 1962); male hind tibia with a preapical lobe; syntergite 1+2 yellowish; male hypopygium as in Fig. 82 of Crosskey (1962).
Material examined. BMNH: Vanuatu: Espiritu Santo: Big Bay , 1.viii.1925, 1 ♀, P.A. Buxton .
Malekula: Ounua, ii.1929, 3 ♀; iii–iv.1929, 1 ♂, L.E. Cheesman (all recorded by Crosskey 1962: 423).
Comments. The species was fully redescribed by Crosskey (1962) who mentioned that it is the most widespread species of Pygophora and who first recorded it from Vanuatu.
Distribution. Belau, Guam, Hawai‘ian Is, Indonesia (West Papua, Maluku, Sulawesi), Kiribati (Gilbert Is), Marshall Is, Micronesia, Northern Marianas, PNG (Bismarck Arch, PNG), Solomon Is, Vanuatu; Oriental Region, Seychelles.
