Coenosia Meigen, 1826: 210 View in CoL . Type-species: Musca tigrina Fabricius, 1775 View in CoL , des. Westwood (1840: 143).

Diagnosis. Male dichoptic; one pair of reclinate orbital setae; frons parallel-sided, longer than wide; labella reduced, prestomal teeth well developed; prealar seta absent; lower proepimeral seta directed downwards; dorsocentrals 1+3 (rarely 2+3); katepisternals 1:1:1, arranged in an equilateral triangle; scutellum with both pairs of setae developed; lower calypter about 1.8 times as long as the upper one; hind femur with two preapical setae, anterodorsal and dorsal; hind tibia with one submedian anterodorsal seta and usually one anteroventral; sternite 1 bare; male hypandrium tubular; female ovipositor long and with many microtrichia.

Comments. The genus is recorded for the first time from Vanuatu.
