Genus Lispocephala Pokorny View in CoL View at ENA , new record
Lispocephala Pokorny, 1893: 532 View in CoL . Type-species: Anthomyia alma Meigen, 1826 , orig. des.
Pectiniseta Stein 1919: 96 View in CoL , 145. Type-species: Caricea prominens Stein, 1910 (= Coenosia pectinata Stein, 1900 View in CoL ), mon. Syn. by Couri & Pont (2000).
Diagnosis. Head long; two pairs of reclinate orbital setae; antenna inserted on upper half of the head; ocellar setae strong; arista long-pectinate in male and long-plumose in female in Vanuatu species; ocellar triangle long, reaching lunula; dorsocentral setae 1+3; hind tibia with 2 short posterodorsals, 2 anterodorsals, 1 short anteroventral, and an apical posteroventral; sternite 1 bare.
Comments. The genus is by far the most speciose in the Australasian and Oceanian Regions, with 110 species listed by Pont (1989) (including species previously placed in Pectiniseta ). The majority of them were described in Lispocephala and are endemic to Hawai‘ian Is. This is the first record from Vanuatu. Pont (1972b) reviewed the Australasian species of Pectiniseta , and P. pectinata was treated in that paper.
