Type data: In MNHP was found a female from Lepeletier’s collection with the following data label: violacea [handwritten]\ [circular label] du nord de la Capite de St Paul [handwritten]\ [red label] Holotype [handwritten]\ Museum Paris nord Capite de St- Paul [printed]. According to the original description, the type locality of this species is “Brasilia” ( Brazil) which agrees with the information label of a female housed at OUMNH that bears the following data label: Bres. [handwritten]\ Centris violacea Lep. ♀ Brasilia [handwritten]. This specimen is here designated as the lectotype. According to the original description, this exemplar belonged to Dejean’s collection and it is in good condition.

Type locality: Brazil .

Comment: Centris violacea only occurs in Brazil. It has been recorded in Distrito Federal and in the states of Goiás and Minas Gerais ( Moure et al., 2007).
