Scolytus kirschii fasciatus Reitter, 1890 View in CoL
Distribution in Iran. Mazandaran ( Modarres Awal 1997 as Scolytus fasciatus ).
General distribution. France, Sicily, Spain, Southern Russia, Algeria, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
Taxonomy. This subspecies has often been considered as a synonym or variety ( Michalski 1973) of S. kirschii kirschii , but is listed as a valid subspecies by Knížek (2011), even though its range overlaps with S. kirschii kirschii . DNA studies could help to determine its status.
Biology. Previously recorded from Ulmus (Ulmaceae) ( Stark 1952; Kadyrov 1989). Recorded in Iran from Prunus armeniaca (both wild and cultivated), Prunus domestica , and sometimes on Prunus spinosa (Rosaceae) and Ulmus sp. ( Ulmaceae ) ( Modarres Awal 1997).
Comments. Metacolus unifasciatus Förster, 1856 ( Hymenoptera : Pteromalidae ) is a parasitoid of S. kirschii fasciatus on Ulmus in Iran ( Abd-Rabou et al. 2005).
