Serraseius Moraes, Barbosa & Castro

Serraseius Moraes et al., 2013: 314 .

Type species. Serraseius caicara Moraes, Barbosa & Castro, 2013: 315

Main distinguishing characteristics. Dorsal shield mostly imbricate (smooth behind Z4). Idiosomal setal pattern 10A:7F/JV-3:ZV-3 (J2, Z1 and Zv3 absent); all dorsal idiosomal setae (including r3 and R1 ) serrate; most dorsal setae elongate, except j1 and J5. Sternal shield lightly sclerotised, with anterior and posterior margins indistinct, but apparently with a lobe on posterior margin. Ventrianal shield ovoid, reduced, bearing only one pair or pre-anal setae (Jv2). Spermathecal calyx cone-shaped (mentioned as funnel-shaped by Moraes et al, 2013). Fixed and movable cheliceral digits with two teeth each. Leg macrosetae absent. Male ventrianal shield with three pairs of pre-anal setae arranged in a triangular pattern; spermadactyl of the type L-shaped .

Remarks. In the original description of this genus, it was mentioned to have the idiosomal setal pattern 10A:7D/ JV-3:ZV-3 (J2, S2 and Zv3 absent). In the description of the second species in this genus ( S. nordestinus Araujo & Oliveira, 2023 ), the seta considered previously to be Z1 was interpreted as S2 given that it was clearly closer to the liryfissure ids1 than to id1. Hence, this genus seems to resemble the taxa placed in Neoseiulini , differing from them by lacking Z1 and by having very lightly sclerotised sternal shield, which apparently has a median lobe on the posterior margin. It also resembles Kampimodromini , differing by lacking Zv3, by having S4 and c-shaped atrium of the spermatheca. The two species presently known in this genus were described from Brazil, from plants.
