Type species. Paraamblyseius lunatus Muma, 1962: 8 .

Main distinguishing characteristics. Dorsal shield densely punctate or reticulate. Idiosomal setal pattern 10A:9B/ JV-3:ZV-3 (in P. guangdongensis (Wu & Lan) , 10A:9B/JV-3:ZV, with Zv3); dorsal shield setae of about uniform lengths, or setae anteriad j6 and s4 similar to each other in length and shape, and shorter than remaining setae, which are also similar to each other in length and shape; seta s4 usually shorter or as long as Z1 and often slightly shorter than j6. Ventrianal shield bowl-shaped, with 3–4 pairs of pre-anal setae. With 1–2 pairs of relatively large metapodal plates. Spermathecal calyx saccular or cone-shaped. Fixed cheliceral digit with 6–8 and movable digit with 2–3 teeth. Without leg macrosetae. Male ventrianal shield with three pairs of setae; spermadactyl type heel-and-toe, with toe long and heel reduced (almost L-shaped) .

Remarks. Only one of the nine species presently included in this genus has been reported from Brazil. Worldwide, species of this genus have been reported only from plants.
