Type species. Typhlodromus (Amblyseius) palustris Chant, 1960: 136 .

Main distinguishing characteristics. Dorsal shield smooth or partially reticulate. Idiosomal setal pattern 10A:9B/ JV-3:ZV (in some specimens of A. palustris (Chant) , 10A:10C/JV-3:ZV, as J3 is also present); in some species, as A. gloreus (El-Banhawy) View in CoL and A. robertogonzalezi Trincado & Martin , 10A:9B/JV-3: ZV-3); setae s4, Z4 and Z5 (and occasionally j3, and z2 or z4) much longer than other setae, but not whip-shaped. Ventrianal shield usually bowl-shaped to subtriangular, usually with three (four in some species) pairs of pre-anal setae. Peritreme usually long, extending to level of j1 (in A. cavei View in CoL Denmark & Evans extending only to level between j3 and z2). Spermathecal calyx saccular or funnel-shaped; some species with atrium bifurcate/vacuolate at juncture with major duct. Fixed cheliceral digit with 2–14 and movable digit with 0–2 teeth. Macrosetae present only on leg IV, sharp-tipped. Male ventrianal shield with three pairs of pre-anal setae arranged in a triangular pattern (four pairs in A. urquharti (Yoshida-Shaul & Chant)) View in CoL ; spermadactyl type heel-and-toe or L-shaped.

Remarks. Six of the 26 species presently included in this genus have been reported from Brazil, all infrequently. Worldwide, species of this genus have been most commonly reported from plants and soil.
