Type species: Pythamus dealbatus Melichar, 1903
Diagnosis. Head anteriorly triangularly produced, median and lateral margins strongly carinate, color black with offwhite or red markings on head and apex of scutellum, forewing claval veins separate throughout length, male pygofer with long ventral process.
Remarks. So far, eight known species are included in Pythamus Melichar. Two of them, P. productus Baker and P. decoratus Baker , known only from females, are uncertain in their placement ( Wei et al, 2014) and another species, P. vietnama Li & Webb , was also described based only on females. P. chiabaotawow Huang is transferred to the genus Riseveinus Li in this study. These four species are excluded from the following key.
