Most obviously distinguished from other similarly coloured Luciola by its large size and uniformly coloured pronotum; 10.5−15.0 mm long; pronotum pinkish red; MS yellowish brown, elytra black. Assigned to Luciola s. str. based on diagrams of aedeagus in Fu (2014) and Yiu (2017). Aedeagal sheath with anterior margin of sheath tergite not produced; posterior area of sternite produced and apically emarginated. Aedeagus slender, with ML swollen at base and narrowing in apical 1/5; narrow apical portion 1/6 s wide as wider basal portion; leaf like lobes slender elongate; LL closely approach along median dorsal line; apices of LL expanded. Possible larvae have laterally explanate tergal margins.
