Anastrepha linharensis View in CoL , new species

Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7. a – g

Diagnosis. This species can be recognized by the following combination of characters: mediotergite with lateral brown stripe; width of the aculeus tip 0.05–0.07 mm; aculeus tip with distal 0.51–0.56 serrate; V-band complete and connected to S-band. In the key of Zucchi (2000), linharensis runs to obliqua , from which differs in having the aculeus tip narrower and the serrations less sharp and less extensive.

Description. Mostly yellow to orange. Setae pale brown.

Head: Yellow to orange, except blackish ocellar tubercle. Facial carina, in profile, concave. 4–5 (usually 4) frontal setae; 2 orbital setae well developed, posterior seta slightly more slender than anterior one; ocellar setae brown, minute, weak.

Thorax: Integument mostly yellow to orange with following areas white: postpronotal lobe; paired sublateral scutal vitta from transverse suture to posterior margin; slender medial vitta, broadened posteriorly beyond acrostichal seta, extending laterally to dorsocentral seta and entire scutellum. Subscutellum entirely orange. Mediotergite with lateral brown stripe ( Fig. 7c View FIGURE 7. a – g ). Mesonotum 2.5–3.1 mm long. Scutum entirely microtrichose, including postpronotal lobe and scutellum. Setae pale brown ( Fig. 7b View FIGURE 7. a – g ). Katepisternal seta small, weak and red brown.

Wing ( Fig. 7a View FIGURE 7. a – g ): Length 5.81–7.62 mm, width 2,75–3,80 mm. Crossvein DM-Cu 1.01–1.40 mm long. Section of vein M between BM-Cu and R-M 1.5–1.8 times as long as section between R-M and DM-Cu. Section between R-M and DM-Cu 0.8 times as long as DM-Cu. Veins dark brown. Vein M slightly curved apically, cell r4+5 0.90–1.00 times as wide at apex as at level of DM-Cu. Pattern mostly yellow and pale brown.

Pterostigma pale brown. All bands connected along vein R4+5; V-band complete; apical arm of V-band narrow, slightly curved and pale brown.

Abdomen: Pale brown. Tergites without markings, entirely microtrichose; setulae red brown.

Female terminalia ( Fig. 7d–e View FIGURE 7. a – g ): Oviscape 1.6–1.9 mm long, 0.60–0.66 times as long as mesonotum, entirely microtrichose; spiracle at basal 0.55–0.65 mm. Eversible membrane with less than 30 denticles in triangular pattern. Aculeus 1.70–1.78 mm long; in ventral view base expanded, 0.2 mm wide; 0.10 mm wide at midlength, sides parallel; tip 0.17–0.20 mm long, basal part 0.07–0.08 mm wide, slightly narrowing just before serrate part (0.05–0.07 mm wide), apical 0.51–0.56 serrate, triangular, gradually tapered to apex.

Spermathecae ovoid, about 0.08 mm wide (broadest diameter), sclerotized, with outer surface covered by Vshaped spines ( Fig. 7f View FIGURE 7. a – g ). Egg white, slightly curved, 1.6 mm long, in straight line, widest near midlength ( Fig. 7g View FIGURE 7. a – g ).

Discussion. This species possesses some of the characteristics which define the fraterculus species group, such as the mediotergite with a dark lateral stripe, but without any other dark markings on the body, and the serrate aculeus tip (Norrbom et al. 1999). The aculeus tip resembles that of A. obliqua (Macquart) , although the aculeus is narrower and the serrations less sharp and less extensive. In A. zenildae Zucchi , aculeus tip also shows a slightly narrowing just before serrations, however in A. linharensis it is narrower and shorter, in addition, A. zenildae has the subscutellum brown laterally.

Distribution. Known only from the locality-type in Espírito Santo state, Brazil.

Host. Unknown.

Type data. Holotype female ( MZUSP), BRASIL: Espírito Santo: Linhares, Mata Atlântica (Reserva Natural da Vale do Rio Doce), McPhail trap, 12.X.2004, D. S. Martins.
