Syrphoctonus lasius ( Momoi, 1973) View in CoL
This species was described by Momoi based on the female holotype and on a male paratype. Both could be found and identified in the collection at the HNHM. However, it is doubtful whether the two individuals belong to the same species, as the male has the areolet closed, the clypeus more convex basally and impressed apically and the mesopleurae less sculptured. The two last characters might represent sexual dimorphisms. More material is needed to clarify the identity of the male.
Type material. Holotype: Mongolia, Bajan-Ölgij aimak, in the valley of the river Chavca-lyn gol, 25km from Somon Cagannuur, 1850m, 0 3.07.1968 (1Ψ). Labelling of the holotype: MONGOLIA: Bajan-Ölgij aimak; im Tal des Flusses Chavea-; lyn gol, 25 km O von Somon; Cagannuur, 1850 m; Exp.Dr.Z.KASZAB,1968 // Nr.1056; 3.VII.1968 // Homotropus ; lasius ; Det.S. MOMOI, ‚ // Holotypus; Homotropus Ψ; lasius Momoi ; label: S.Klopfstein 0 6. Paratype: Mongolia, Chövsgöl aimak / 22km W of Somon Cecerleg in the valley of the river Tesijn gol 1820m 22.06.1968 #1001 (1ɗ) (all HNHM).
Diagnosis. This species is in both sexes very close to S. pictus (Gravenhorst, 1829) or S. megaspis (Thomson, 1890) , but differs by the lack of an areolet in the female holotype, the denser and stronger punctuation and sculpturation on the mesopleuron, and the lighter brown apex of the hind tibia.
