Type Locality: Indonesia, Prov. of Papua (= Irian Jaya), Vogelkop, Sorong Div., Tamrau Range, Karons Mtns.

Vernacular Names: Stein's Cuscus.

Synonyms: Phalanger interpositus Stein 1933 ; Phalanger permixtio Menzies and Pernetta 1986 .

Distribution: Interior New Guinea, 1200-1500 m. (in western range, up to 2200 m.).

Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.

Discussion: Formerly known as P. interpositus (see Flannery, 1990).
