FAMILY RHAGIDIIDAE

The Rhagidiidae are soft bodied predators that are usually found in damp habitats such as moss, under rocks, in wet soil, and in caves ( Krantz, 1978). Zacharda (1980) listed 74 species of the family from many countries, and more have been described since, but surprisingly, only a single named species is known from southern Africa ( Meyer & Ryke, 1960b; Olivier & Theron, 2003). Meyer et al. (1973) recorded unidentified material belonging to the genus Rhagidia from South Africa, which may be the same as the species described here.
