Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Lagocephalus spadiceus (Richardson 1844) View in CoL by George et al. (1964: 25); subsequently recorded as by Mouneimné (1977: 66); as Lagocephalus spadiceus (Rchardson 1844) View in CoL by Mouneimné (2002: 245–246); recently recorded as Lagocephalus spadiceus View in CoL by Carpentieri et al. (2009: 3); as Lagocephalus spadiceus View in CoL by Bariche et al. (2015: 2366); as Lagocephalus spadiceus View in CoL by Fanelli et al. (2015: 2169). Material in collection: AUBM, BMNH and USNM (as L. spadiceus View in CoL ).
Distribution. Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: South Africa, Madagascar and Persian Gulf east to Indonesia, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia; Mediterranean Sea and Sea of Marmara (Red Sea immigrant).
Conservation. IUCN: Global ( LC: 8 June 2011). Capture and threats: Unknown. Occurrence: Very common. Non-indigenous species, no conservation action needed .
